His research interests focus on the mechanisms of ageing and longevity, cellular senescence and its role in age-associated diseases, the regulation of cellular proliferation, tissue repair and carcinogenesis, as well as intracellular signaling pathways. In parallel, his work involves the identification of natural products and novel synthetic molecules with antioxidant, anti-ageing, anticancer and wound-healing properties.

His scientific output includes more than 225 peer-reviewed publications, 17 book chapters, over 18,000 citations, and two patents. He has coordinated more than 35 funded research projects and has supervised a substantial number of postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates and graduate students. He has also organized and participated in several postgraduate academic programs.

Dr. Kletsas currently serves as President of the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, member of the National Committee for the Welfare of Laboratory Animals, Coordinator of the National Research Infrastructure OPENSCREEN-GR, and member of the Council of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS).

He has previously served as President of the European Tissue Repair Society, National Expert for the European Commission’s FP6 program in the field of Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health, as a member of the National Research and Technology Council (ΕΣΕΤ) and the National Council for Research and Innovation (ΕΣΕΚ) expert panels in Biology and Biosciences, and as a member of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation of the Attica Region.
